BRADENTON FLORIDA — A man and woman were arrested Thursday and charged with marijuana-related offenses after authorities found a three-foot and two-foot tall marijuana plants growing in the man’s Bradenton home.
Kyle T. Laracey, 27, was charged with cultivating and possession in his home and Christa Heather Hawkins, 36, was charged with possession, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.
Armed with an arrest warrant for Laracey, deputies immediately noticed a five-foot tall marijuana plant growing outside the front door of the home in a pot, the report states. Once inside the house, deputies found Laracey and Hawkins hiding in a back bedroom, according to the report.
Deputies noticed a three-foot plant in a pot in the kitchen as well as bulk marijuana in a hallway closet.
After being read his Miranda rights, Laracey told deputies the plants were his and that he had “a green thumb.”
Among items seized at the house were 359.6 grams of bulk marijuana and drug paraphernalia including glass pipes, digital scales, plastic baggies, a marijuana grinder and two cultivated plants weighing 239.8 grams, the report states.
A firearm was also found at the residence, which, Laracey told deputies, was for self-protection.
Laracey was in the Manatee County jail being held in lieu of $11,600 in bail on charges of cultivation and possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hawkins was also in the jail, in lieu of $1,000 bail for possession of marijuana.
